Socialization Once you get your puppy home the fun begins. Dogs like people are a reflection of their experiences. It is of paramount importance that all of your new companions' experiences are good ones, if you want a dog that is easy to live with. The more fun they have the happier their spirit will be. If you want your dog to be kind and loving to people than people need to be kind and loving to your Rottweiler. First, is to introduce and to socialize the puppy with family. Adults, children as well as other family pets need some time to interact with the puppy making sure that the experience is rewarding for all. The next order of business is to socialize with others. Neighbors, relatives, Vets, strangers etc. all have to treat your dog well to have a people friendly dog. I like to take my puppy to Starbucks. I get a cup of coffee and just sit outside at a table. The rest is natural because everyone loves a puppy. I find that almost all of the people that show interest ask if they can say hello to the puppy and of coarse there is an expected authorization to do so. Based on what I see and feel about the individual the nod is either given or withheld. After all who doesn't just love a puppy ? I find that not only do people love puppies , but no one is afraid of them. Because of this comfort humans don't telegraph nervous body language to the dog. The same goes for children. The puppy learns that small children are friends too, keeping in mind that an adult has to keep the child's curiosity from hurting the dog in some physical sense. This repeated exposure to loving friends and strangers will form good memories from which will draw on the rest of their lives. Using just a bit of common sense in the selection process, there are many public venues that will serve to socialize your Rottie. Of note is that there are some diseases that can affect the health of young dogs. Before you take your new Rottweiler into those public venues you should discuss precautions with your vet. Many people feel that the puppy six months of age is the threshold for public activities because by this age they will have had the full gamut if immunizations. The final decision is yours with the input of your vet. Conversely, should a puppy be isolated from people except the one that feeds him most likely they will become uncertain of those unknown people that approach him. Dogs like people are cautious of the unknown. In such circumstances they are unequipped to handle a relationship with a human. without good experiences to reflect upon. They need to learn, and as they age these experiences become part of the dogs personality. When dogs mature their most primal instincts are, Fight or Flight. If the animal has had bad experiences or no experience at all , and they can't get away from a new encounter there could be a problem. Ya Think?
