Fences and Yards Rottweilers are bred to be active participants in life. They are happiest when they are occupied. If you don't have anything for them to do , trust me when I say they will find something to keep them busy. The best way to deal with this energy is for them to work or play, play and play. Having a suitable back yard for them to run is a huge plus. It will not only keep them busy , it will keep them in shape. If you have the time and ability to enjoy this time with them they will be in heaven and you will sleep well at night. We live in a more active society these days. If you have circumstances where this isn't something you can do, you may consider a companion animal for your dog of the same or a different breed but at first they must be watched for suitability. All dogs are territorial and protective of their families. If another puppy is introduced it is best to do that after the first one is at least six months old. The desired result is that they bond with you rather than each other. Should you increase the size of your pack remember that you must maintain the role of alpha no matter who vies for the role. Pack animals instinctually try to move up the social ladder to leader '' Alpha''. Rottweilers are extremely intelligent, gregarious and strong willed. They sometimes exhibit some bravado but you must always remain Alpha in all situations for control. If you allow them to run the house they will gladly oblige. A fenced yard is the optimal situation, however it will not be without a bit of additional maintenance, input = output if you get the drift. Your new pal may leave you with a fresh excavation in the grass this week adding its repair to your weekend schedule. How about when their natural inquisitiveness finds the weak link in the fence and they go on a '' walk about '' as they say down under. All in all both of you will be the happiest with their own yard even if there is a bit more maintenance. Fences also provide security not only for your home but also from those that may want to relocate your dog for what ever reason. Just something to think about. |
